I truly believe that women need each other to walk alongside us on our journey in life. Those of us who are older need younger women in our lives to keep us fresh in our thinking and to challenge us to not get set in our ways. Those of us who are younger need older women in our lives who have navigated some of the troubled waters that life brings us because they have been there and done that. Experience is a great teacher! All of us need someone who has the wisdom to speak into us when we are going through a difficult situation and we can’t be objective – our emotions prevent us from believing God’s truth will guide us. Our hearts can deceive us.
A verse that jumped off the page to me when I needed it most was I Samuel 23:16. David’s life has been threatened by King Saul who is emotionally unstable, to say the least. There is an unusually close bond that David has with Saul’s son, Jonathan. Jonathan is trying to help David escape from the threats of Saul and he comes to David where he is hiding out and it simply states, “Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God.” Thank you, God, for friends who help us find our strength in You.
I am so thankful that I have several friends that I can count on to speak truth to me even when I don’t want to hear it. It is a precious blessing. They love me enough to hold me accountable for my attitudes and actions. They help me find strength in God. We are
so much stronger when we exist in a community of believers who first love God, and then love us. I am inspired to be more like Jesus when I see the beauty of Jesus living in others.
